Here we go again

This blog was started on May 15, 2008, to fight for a more democratic EU and, therefore, against the terms of the pre-constitutional legalistic text called Treaty of Lisbon, with a post containing only this declaration:

The Irish are the voice of all citizens of Europe

(Click on the title to read it in English, or click on the following links to read the same text in other language: português, français, deutsch, nederlands, español.

Sixteen months later, the deafness of our politicians forced many of us back to the fight.

This time, this blog will be used more as a support to others better organized, advertising initiatives and actions, reporting  news and results.

*****

The Irish are the voice of all citizens of Europe

We are free and proud citizens of free and sovereign European countries. We, and our possessions, can move freely throughout the other sovereign European countries. We don’t need to be citizens of a single, and militarily powerful, federative state called Europe. WE DO NOT WANT TO BECOME CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF EUROPE. What makes Europe great is not the uniformity of Europeans but rather their diversity and differences.

If you agree with this declaration, please write a brief comment bellow encouraging our Irish fellow-citizens to vote NO on the referendum to the Constitutional Treaty, as they are the only to be asked in all Europe.

Disclaimer: This statement was wrote by a single Portuguese citizen and is not supported by any political, religious or institutional party or tendency.

About the comments: Comment moderation is enabled. All comments must be approved by the blog administrator. Please, write short comments (you can write more than one), using short sentences; write preferably in English or French (if you can); do not use jargon or disrespectful words; be patient if you write in other languages, as the approval process may take more than one day. The blog administrator will erase all impolite, offensive, aggressive, doubtful or suspicious comments.

Final declaration (June 8, 2008): From this day until June 12th this blog’s only activity will be the moderation of new comments. No more information will be added, unless it’s something of extreme importance. The comments will now be taken to the knowledge of the largest possible number of Irish voters on the referendum. Dishonest and paltry ways left the Irish alone to take this huge decision, with this heavy responsibility. Please, be brave and vote NO to this undemocratic way to build Europe. I leave you with the powerful prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

  1. No I don’t want to be a citizen of the united states of europe. My government (Portuguese) once promised a referendum about the european treaty, but afterwards just approved it and said that people wouldn’t understand it and that therefore the referendum was not needed at all.
I sincerely hope that Irish people WILL SAY NO TO THIS TREATY - ON OUR BEHALF!

  2. Good for you.
Unfortunately, here in the US we are already one very large nation soon to be ruled by socialists

  3. If the current Portuguese government had respected its electoral promise, the majority of the Portuguese citizens would have voted NO to the Lisbon Treaty.
Irish citizens, use this chance and advantage to vote NO to the Lisbon Treaty.
The identity and sovereignty of the European countries, cannot lose to the selfish will of some selected ones.

  4. So we thought WW2 put fascism to bed? Think again. When our Euro MPs can call folk who disagree with them “mentally defective” then we know Big Brother has arrived.
Ladies and Gentlemen, say NO to having your government transferred to a far-away land.
I watch from afar (New Zealand) and hope you send a signal to, nay a shot across the bows, of elitism. For that’s what the EU project is: entrenching power in the hands of a circle who believe they have all the answers and know how YOU should live your life. What do THEY know about Eire anyway?

  5. Following the link THE REASONS TO SAY NO we clearly understand what’s going on and why they (governors all over Europe) didn’t want us to be referended.

  7. There’s a thought that has been crossing my mind for a couple of days: the political options in Europe tend to make more and more richer and poorer people. The middle class risks extinction. And who profits from this situation?
While rich people spend their time spending money and poor people spend their time wondering how to survive, polititians are free to rule with no real opposition…

  10. For all our sakes stop Leviathan from consuming the colour in European life, replacing it instead with uniformity in Blue and Yellow.

    Comment by Thom — May 20, 2008 @ 7:31 am

  11. It would be very nice if you could save us the torturous process of withdrawal we will have to undergo if this becomes UK law. The EU is a non-entity militarily, and economically only a way to keep Africa poor at the expense of the French. Politically it gives power to a group of unelected beaurocrats like Mandelson, who was rejected three times by the UK electorate but still given a job by the Eurocrats. Enough, enough, enough.

  12. From Castelo Branco (mainly rural, mainly deserted district) in Portugal, I hope Irish people will say NO to this TREATY OF TREASON.
We want to be european citizens IN OUR COUNTRIES, we don’t want to be european citizens WITH NO COUNTRY.

  13. Here is a message of my parents, who don´t acces the Internet and are too old to come to live the difference between a «yes» or a «no» to this Treaty:
To the Irish people, just think about the kind of future and the kind of life you want for your children and grandchildren! We hope you will vote NO to the Lisbon Treaty.

    Comment by Smiles — May 20, 2008 @ 4:50 pm

  14. Each Irish vote on the referendum means that the Irish people was given the opportunity to say YES or NO to this Treaty.

If the majority of the Irish people says NO to this Treaty, that would mean an opportunity for millions of other European citizens to finally be heard.

You are not voting alone, and therefore we are not alone.

  35. I’m not Irish and I have never been in Ireland. Some people may therefore say that this is none of my business!
But I say yes this is of my business, as well as of all other European Union people’s business! We didn’t have the right to say yes or no to the treaty, and WE WILL NOT HAVE other FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS if the Irish say yes to it.
So the only possible VOTE is NO!

    Comment by Portuguese — June 11, 2008 @ 10:21 am

  36. Our european governors have now TOGUETHER decreed the New World SLAVERY (65 working hours per week!) in Europe. And still they are ELECTED sovereign members of sovereign countries with sovereign laws. So we can pretty well image what they will be able to decree if they get to be only ONE NON-ELECTED GOVERNMENT over Europe without countries, as the Lisbon Treaty states.
This is a huge responsability we are throwing on Irish shoulders, but that’s the only way we’ve got left to fight for our freedom and democracy.
IRISH FRIENDS PLEASE VOTE NO FOR ME, FOR YOU, FOR US!

    Comment by am.ma — June 11, 2008 @ 7:02 pm

  37. Good hearted women and men of ireland. Please do our european continent a favor and vote NO to the lisbon treaty.

I ask your help for us all from germany. Most people in the 27 country’s are NOT AGAINST the european union but AGAINST an EU of the big businesses. Against an antidemocratic if not to say a faschist EU which do not care about their people. Wich do not care about our children and which do not care about peace.

They only care about foreign ressources which they want to “secure” for europe by means of war if neccessary.

They will send our children into dead, just to save their profits.

Again, good people of ireland. Remind your history as a strong and free nation and as well remind your responsibility for every other european nation who don’t have the opportunity to vote about their future.

    God bless you..

  38. Another Europe is possible. Don’t listen to threats, pay no attention to blackmailers.
Think about the future you want for your children, the world you wish for them to live in.
Freedom or slavery? Democracy or dictatorship?
Yes, another Europe is possible: please vote NO.

You are being the voice of all european citizens!!

Simply fabulous your attitude. I’m deeply grateful!!! :-)

  40. Some have voiced concern about the result of the Irish referendum being shifted by only 110.000 votes. But it’s not a hundred thousand and ten against several hundred million, each of the votes also represents those voters in the other European states, that were not allowed to vote! The vote of each of those one hundred and ten Irish could well represent a million other Europeans! On behalf of myself and a great lot of other people, I would like to expres my gratitude to the Irish voter, who voted NO for us, now that we were barred from doing it ourselves!

    Comment by Ross from England — May 17, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

  49. Message to Ireland about Lisbon treaty: vote NO:

Lisbon treaty seems to be totally strange and deleting democracy or human rights?

    http://conservativehome.blogs.com/centreright/2008/01/lisbon-treaty-c.html

I’ve read an article which states that police gets rights to shoot people in some situations.

These kind of things are totalitarian politics.

It also probably stops right to go on strike.

    http://www.no2lisbon.ie/en/press-centre/entry/160

And all this in whole Europe …

It is sad to notice that all other countries have accepted this treaty, but many governments have not even given people chance to vote about it.

Irish government has given you this right,…anyway it is really strange that Ireland maybe votes again about this, and only after few months?(or 2009?)

EU elite needs this YES, and they have ordered new voting?

If this is true it shows how horrible secret elite rules EU, and what can we expect from the future?
Lisbon treaty is basically giving ‘Gestapo’-laws to EU-government, if needed?

And they seem to need those laws fast?

Vote NO, and save the world?

F.ex. in many european countries media and politicians has almost 100% ignored discussions about this subject, and people are not even aware about whole thing?

It is also good to remember that USA has now similar ‘martial laws’ there, after 11th september 2001… ?

EU security officials decide about all security matters of whole EU?

Also there is some things which makes it very difficult for normal people to complain and get things corrected if there is wrongful handlings?

I hope I am wrong, but this whole thing , and how it has been handled seems really wrong? And it is not a democratic way to handle politics.?

    Give us back our democracy!

    Besked om Lissabon-traktaten:

Lissabon-traktaten synes at være helt mærkeligt og sletter demokrati eller menneskerettigheder?

    http://conservativehome.blogs.com/centreright/2008/01/lisbon-treaty-c.html

politiet får ret til at skyde folk i nogle situationer?

Disse slags ting er totalitære politik.

Det sandsynligvis også stopper ret til at gå i strejke.

    http://www.no2lisbon.ie/en/press-centre/entry/160

  50. With regard to Germany, the unprecedented decline of economic power and personal income(since 1998) due to the loss of the currency(”Deutsche Mark”) and therefor benefits of the export-surplus, the loss of parlamentary power over the budget and spending policy(”Maastricht-Kriterien”)and the retreat of the state in terms of controlling money transfers and hardcore-capitalistic investments- thus weakening social-systems, rising unemployment-rates and undermining the once worldwide leading constitutionally fixed and countrywide approved, socially backed economic system (”soziale Marktwirtschaft)- is nothing but a declaration of war to what we call “Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit” the basics of our and any republic with free and equal citizens. Besides it destroys the so far achieved, which is up to around 1992,european cooperation:Now,us-style capitalism roules, the people is regarded as an obstacle for the allmighty (party-)leaders and our so called chancellor fails in getting the difference between the German Reunion and an irrational, dangerous and totalitary UDSSEU. Votez non a la constitution! Vive la republique!Vote no to Lisbon treaty and a single currency!!!
